Here is the next volume in our ongoing effort at Real Gone Music to chronicle every step of Dusty Springfield’s artistic journey through the ‘70s: the first-ever collection of her United Artists sides!

In the mid-1970s, legendary British singer Dusty Springfield took a break from performing and recording following a dramatic divorce from ABC/Dunhill Records. The soulful songbird had relocated to Los Angeles in an effort to focus on her American career but had suffered from her infamous insecurity which caused her to abandon an album in 1974.

Although Dusty was courted by longtime admirer Elton John for his Rocket Records label, when she returned to recording in 1977, Dusty chose United Artists Records for her new home. Young songwriter Steve Dorff was assigned to produce a pair of his compositions with Dusty from which to choose a kick-off single release. Although "Let Me Love You Once Before You Go" only briefly bubbled under the Billboard Hot 100, it set the stage for follow up sessions headed by Queen producer Roy Thomas Baker. The result, IT BEGINS AGAIN, was heralded as Dusty's comeback in 1978.

The tracks on IT BEGINS AGAIN reflect a mature Dusty covering a variety of genres: pop, rock, soul and disco. Baker surrounded her withthe cream of the west coast studio musicians and Dusty brought her A-game to the project. Projecting both warmth and fragility, her voice expressed new textures and techniques which were new to her sound.

She would pursue a somewhat softer approach with her second UA album, LIVING WITHOUT YOUR LOVE, from 1979. This sophomore set, produced by David Wolfert for the Entertainment Company, focused on soulful pop with a little light dance music in the mix.  In both LIVING WITHOUT YOUR LOVE and IT BEGINS AGAIN, it was clear that Dusty had regained both her confidence and joy as a songbird supreme.

For this 2-LP/2-CD set, we’ve added five non-LP bonus tracks including the promotional-only extended mix of "That's The Kind of Love I've Got For You" by the renowned Tom Moulton that put Dusty on the Billboard dance charts and set the stage for her smash collaboration with the Pet Shop Boys a decade later. Most of the tracks have been pulled from the original American masters for the first time, and the whole collection’s been remastered for vinyl by Mike Milchner at Sonic Vision. Joe Marchese’s notes amply fill an LP-sized 4-page insert boasting rarely seen period photography. Pressed on violet PET plastic or available on double CD!
